Summit of Treasures: Buddhist Cave Sculpture of Dazu, China
Published in Hardcover by Weatherhill (December, 2001)
Author: Angela Falco Howard
Average review score:

Great place - bad pictures!!!
Dazu is a really great place. It is as stunning as Yungang caves in Shanxi and much more impressive than the famous Mogao caves in the Gansu province. And this makes probably just about every book on the place worthwhile. BUT half of the photographs in this book are so bad it is unbelievable. True, those caves tend to be dark and there is little room for you to step back when taking a picture etc... but one would assume that somebody who wants to publish a book about the place could do better than take average tourist-quality (and sometimes worse) pictures. Unfortunately, this seems to be the only book on the topic out there. So there is really no choice for you if you are interested in Dazu. The accompanying text is very detailed and seems very good but, let's face it, most of us don't get books of this type primarily because of the text - it is the photographs that really matter. In sum, think twice before you get this book.

Lords of the Seven Rays - Mirror of Consciousness
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Summit Univ Press (01 April, 1988)
Authors: Mark L. Prophet and Elizabeth Clare Prophet
Average review score:

questionable information
I LOVE spiritual books. I have tried to read this book twice and I can not get through it. Some of the material seems to be coming from the authors ego and not the Masters. There are great books on the Rays. Prelude to Ascension by Janet McClure or Alice Bailey. It is not easy for me to write something negative but I hope this helps someone on the path.

A great book for crystal lovers
This book explores the author's theosophy of how certain spiritual beings use crystals--diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, amethyst, etc. Explains how people can use crystals and "communicate" with the spiritual beings in everyday life.

I loved it!!
I read this book and found it to be an interesting one!!. I have been a devoted reader of Mrs. Prophet books, for they provide quality information and inspirating stories and valuable insight on ascended masters, karma, reincarnation. This book focus on the seven rays, spiritual energies we are meant to master (power, wisdom, love, purity, science, devotion and forgiveness). Thanks Mrs. Prophet, once again I am delighted.

Creating Cool Frontpage Web Sites
Published in Paperback by Hungry Minds, Inc (October, 1996)
Authors: Paul M. Summit, Mary J. Summitt, and Paul M. Summitt
Average review score:

Very poorly written book, confusing, and a waste
I thought the book was very poorly written. First , it was disorganized and very difficult to understand, second, it did a very poor job of explaining anything. The author explained doing the to do list to death, but forgot to ever explain how to do a web page with front page. Later in the book he went to great length to explain the comands to use with certain things, without ever letting you know what those things did, and what it was he was talking about. After I read it and learned nothing, I loaned it to a friend who is very up on computers, and wanted to learn Front Page. He gave it back a few hours later and said he couldn't understand what the author was talking about.

Good tips, & book, but bad cdrom/website.
The book reads well, and does teach well, but I was very disappointed with the contents of the CDrom that came with it since it had only a few pictures in it and trivial templates. Not cool templates. I went to their web site and found an empty shell created by running the FrontPage wizard and then letting it die there. If it wasn't that the tips & tricks section of the book was so worth $30 dollars to me I would say the book was a false front, but I also see value in it as a reference. Hot & cold review I know, but still it comes out an 8

Aconcagua: Summit of the Americas -- A Map-Guide for Climbers and Trekkers
Published in Map by E. Darack Photography (18 February, 2002)
Author: Ed Darack
Average review score:

Aconcagua-A map-guide
...The NASA photo from space should prove quite helpful in discerning a route. Not! The other maps, although providing more information than the space shot, do not justify the price charged. The general information provided is information any climber/trekker should know or can easily ascertain. There are no unique insights provided by this map-guide. The same information, as well as photos and detailed maps, can be found in other guides which are less expensive. The same info, as well as far greater detail on the routes, info regarding outfitters, etc. can be found in Aconcagua-A Climbing Guide, 2nd ed., which consists of 144 pages ...

Utterly Useless
This is a vague overview of the mountain and has no pertinenet information that cannot be found in a good guide book. The map is worthless....

Essential Resource
When I first opened the package, I was surprised at what I saw; I expected something larger. Nevertheless, this unique guide has just about everything a prospective Aconcagua climber needs: a number of maps at different scales and a brief but good overview of planning, the ruta normal, and the polish glacier routes. This guide is compact and it is nice that it comes packaged in a ziplock style bag. It weighs nothing, but has a really good selection of information.

Agenda 21: The Earth Summit Strategy to Save Our Planet
Published in Hardcover by Earth Pr (March, 1993)
Authors: Dan Sitarz, Paul Simon, and Daniel Sitarz
Average review score:

Very repetitive and wordy account of the 1992 Earth Summit
This wordy book on the 1992 Earth Summit was a reading requirement for a class I once took. Most people in the class did not finish it. Although the book presents several interesting ideas and important policy directives for global environmental problems, it loses the reader with overstated details. The ideas and goals presented look good on paper, but leave you scratching your head after reading them, asking yourself "how?" However, this is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of global environmental discussions and policy.

Hard Line
Published in Hardcover by Random House (June, 1992)
Authors: Richard Perle and Richard N. Peale
Average review score:

Like a B movie
For all the hype, this is a really boring read. The writing is wooden and the story is tired. Nothing new at all, save your money

Quality Takes A Fall
I must have missed something, considering the amount of praise heaped on the author on the dust jacket, I thought I was about to read War and Peace. There was nothing new here, and the story line moved around like a heart monitor display - no consistent track - grabs something here, something there. This really is a very disappointing book.

The Summits of God-Life: Samadhi and Siddhi: Liberation, Enlightenment, Nirvana and Realisation
Published in Paperback by Aum Pubns (June, 1984)
Authors: Sri Chinmov and Sri Chinmoy
Average review score:

Without depth or substance
Chinmoy uses new age jargon to mask the fact that he is uninformed about the subtleties of the subject matter. He is neither a philosopher nor is he spiritually adept. He uses his PR skill to lure unsuspecting youth to his cult. Don't buy his books.
